DESCRIPTION
Explore thermodynamics, gas laws, Boyle's Law, and more with this excellent learning tool for middle school and high school students!
This "fire syringe" (or diesel piston demonstrator device) shows the relationship between gas pressure and temperature – and how they can be used to light a small piece of cotton or tinder on fire!
The piston apparatus consists of a thick, clear plastic tube and a plunger. When the plunger is pushed down with a firm grip, the air in the tube is compressed; this rapid compression of the air (specifically called adiabatic compression) elevates the temperature of the gas enough to ignite the cotton fibers of a cotton ball!
Includes instructions on how to use the fire syringe demonstrator.
