DESCRIPTION

This is the ultimate earth science collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils! You get 105 number-coded specimens conveniently packaged as eight different collections in individual compartmented boxes. The rock and mineral specimens are about 1" x 1" and fossil specimens vary in size.

This advanced earth science collection allows you to thoroughly study and investigate a variety of minerals, rocks, and fossils. In addition, you get a streak plate, magnet, and magnifier.

Also included is the 16-page Rocks, Minerals and Gemstones: an Introductory Study Guide. This guide has basic introductory information on many, but not all, of the rock and mineral specimens in this collection. It is organized into sections on mineral properties, metallic minerals, nonmetallic minerals, rock forming minerals, igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, and gemstones. It also has charts on the rock cycle and on classification of the three types of rocks. This collection also has a geologic time chart to help learn about the fossil specimens

Earth Science Collection includes:

  • Mohs Hardness Scale
  • Magnifier, streak plate, and steel bar, 9 specimens
  • Cleavage and Fracture, 12 specimens
  • Streak, Color and Luster, 12 specimens
  • Rock Forming Minerals, 24 specimens (2 boxes)
  • Basic Igneous Rocks, 12 specimens
  • Basic Metamorphic Rocks, 12 specimens
  • Basic Sedimentary Rocks, 12 specimens
  • Common Fossils, 12 specimens
  • Rocks, Minerals and Gemstones: an Introductory Study Guide
  • Geologic time chart
  • Identification key for all specimens

Note: This kit contains galena, a source of lead. Skin contact with galena is not dangerous; however, to avoid potential digestion, always wash hands after handling.
